A genuine tester that has been opened and partly used. Its page shows how full it is, the dates it was in use, and any marks.

If it ships in another box from the same house, the page says so. What you buy is the bottle and the perfume.

Many bottles carry an open-jar mark, such as 12M, 24M or 36M: the months the maker vouches for once opened, counted from the first date shown. Kept well, many last longer.

Keep it in its box, in a cupboard, away from sun, heat and steam, never in a car. A partly used bottle holds more air, so wear it rather than save it.

Stop wearing it if it smells sour or turns darker: aged perfume can irritate skin.
